Improving the educational process for pupils of Kojori Special Boarding School

In December 2001, the Cottonwood Foundation (White Bear Lake, USA) provided Green Alternative with a grant for the implementation of a project entitled "To Improve Education for Pupils of Kojori Special Boarding School".

A full set of textbooks and stationery as well as a second-hand computer have been purchased and provided to the pupils of the Special Boarding School of Kojori. The volunteers of Green Alternative conducted several lessons to give the pupils a basic education in the use of the computer. The teachers of the School were especially glad to receive the textbooks and stationery, and mentioned that it really helped to improve the quality of education. The volunteers of Green Alternative also conducted awareness-raising lessons for pupils of the School on major environmental problems. As a follow-up to the environmental lessons, and in order to involve the pupils in practical environmental activities, in March 2002 the pupils and volunteers planted trees in the yard of the School.

Green Alternative began the implementation of the "Kojori Special Boarding School Rehabilitation" project on 15 November 2001 through the kind support of a Japan Government Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects. This project aims to improve the quality of life for pupils by repairing school facilities. Particularly, the project's goals included: replacing the roof, zinc sheet irons, doors and windows, painting the front of the school with special paints, sanitary engineering work, and the installation of modern heating . These goals were completed by the end of 2002.
